World Customs Organization Enforcement Committee

The 28th Session of the World Customs Organization Enforcement Committee was held at the WCO headquarters in Brussels from 23 - 27 February 2009. The meeting was attended by Customs and Revenue Directorates from about 100 countries.

In the session also open to non-Enforcement Committee members, UNEP DTIE made a presentation on "The public-private approach for responsible behaviour, positive investment and preventing environmental crime" which described how prevention of environmental crime rests not only with governments and enforcement agencies but also with the private sector, which has a very important role to play. A number of relevant UNEP and Green Customs activities and initiatives were described which aim to foster cooperation with the private sector to seek to address such significant environmental challenges. This was followed by a question and answer session.
