Regional Symposium on Green Customs and Chemicals in Arab States, Damascus, Syria, 26 - 29 October, 2009

The League of Arab States (LAS) in cooperation with UNEPhas organized a "Regional Symposium on Sound Management of Chemicals in Arab States" over a 4-day period on 26-29 October 2009 in Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic; in cooperation with Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), International Labour Organization (ILO) and Arab Institute for Occupational Health and Safety, under the Arab Labour Organization (ALO). This Included a Two day Green Customs Workshop. The authorities and stakeholders from governmental enforcement chains of Arab countries were invited (50-60 participants from 22 Arab countries, consisting of representatives from Authorities of Environment, Customs and Occupational Health & Safety) for consideration of how to strengthen cooperation to assist countries to curb illegal trade and reach the goals of chemical and waste MEAs in protecting human health and the environment against negative impact of harmful substances and hazardous waste.
