GCI - SECI Training Workshop, Budapest, Hungary, 29 - 30 March 2011

 

A new partnership - Combating International Environmental Crime in Southeast Europe

.For the first time, the Green Customs Initiative has jointly held a training workshop with the Southeast European Cooperation Initiative (SECI) and the Hungarian National Bureau of Investigation on combating international environmental crime. The workshop which was held on 29th and 30th March included participation of customs and police officers from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey, along with experts from the German CITES Management Authority, INTERPOL, UNEP DTIE, the Basel Convention Secretariat and Basel Regional Centre for Central Europe and the Hungarian Ministry of Rural Development.

The workshop provided the opportunity for the Partners to the Green Customs Initiative to present their conventions and organisations and discuss the role of customs and enforcement authorities in implementing these and addressing relevant environmental crime issues.

 

SECI is a unique operational organization which facilitates the rapid exchange of information between law enforcement agencies from 13 member countries regarding trans-border criminal cases within the framework of eight Task Forces addressing issues of drugs and human beings trafficking, stolen vehicles, smuggling and customs fraud, financial and computer crimes, terrorism, container security and environmental and nature-related crimes.
